The Nordic region gathered

Published: 19 January 2015

By the end of 2014 graduate students from all the Nordic countries were gathered at Luleå University of Technology for a graduate course focusing on the mines. With a common geography, culture, climate and geology, this is a partnership that aims to strengthen the Region's competence in the field.

Sustainability was the theme of this course, and questions about the mining industry impact on social, economic and environmental factors were discussed with focus on the Nordic countries.

–  Lecturers were well-known experts in each area, mainly from Sweden and the Nordic countries, but also from other countries, says Betty Christakopoulou, Project Manager NordMin.

The PhD course was the first within the project,  hosted by Luleå University of Technology and runned by NordMin – A Nordic network of Expertise for a sustainable Mining and Mineral Industry, Nordic Council of Ministers.
