New design for the mineral collection

Published: 15 June 2015

Students from the Master Programme in Architectural Engineering has developed four proposals on how Luleå University of Technology´s mineral collection will be exposed in the future. This is a smaller subproject among the major construction projects underway on campus in Luleå.

With the help of two graduate students from the Division of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering, and two students from the program Master Programme in Natural Resources Engineering, a competition was held for students in architecture. The prize award was set to 20 000 SEK for the best proposal.

–  We received four very different proposals all of which contained both smart and stylish solutions. It became very hard to just pick out a proposal, so we decided to give the winner 11 000 SEK and the other contributions received 3 000 each. We want to be able to use some ideas from all the proposals, says Susanne Bauer, PhD in Applied Geology.

The work on the new exhibition will continue for the rest of this year and sometime in the spring of 2016, the new exhibition will open if all goes according to plan.

–  The project is part of our plan to create "showrooms" to increase awareness of our core business and thereby strengthen our attractiveness, says Örjan Johansson, Head of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering.
