Spectacular construction projects in Norway

Published: 22 June 2015

Norwegian Public Road Administration - Statens Vegvesen- make it possible for the first-year students at The Master Programme in Civil Engineering at Luleå University of Technology to go to Norway and visit sights for tunneling, geotechnical engineering and bridge building. Alumnis greeted the new students welcome to Norway in 2015.

This year the students visited Narvik where the Norwegian Public Roads Administration showed tunneling by drill-blast method, rock cuts, anchoring of bridge construction in the mountains and LKAB shows ore port's gigantic mountain silos.

- An ultimate visit where students could experience both bridge construction and underground work. We appreciate a lot to Public Roads Administration and LKAB makes this possible, says Catrin Edelbro, lecturer at the University.

Norwegian Public Road Administration (Statens Vegvesen) and the Division of Mining and Geotechnical Engineering at Luleå University of Technology has for many years had a cooperation in the form of guest lectures, internships and financial support for the students. Alumnis of civil engineering talked with great enthusiasm about their role as rock and geotechnical engineers at Statens Vegvesen. The students got through the visit a link between theory and practice.
