Published: 5 August 2016

Erik Westerberg's Vocal Ensemble will have the honor to perform at the opening of the Swedish Parliament on 13 September. Erik Westberg, professor at Luleå University of Technology, is looking forward to inaugurating the parliamentary year.

– Of course it is a great honor, and an important opportunity to manifest choir with Norrbotten overtones, says Erik Westberg.

Clear connection to the university

Erik Westberg Vocal Ensemble was formed in 1993 and consists of 16 singers. The ensemble's members are active as soloists, church musician and music teacher, and comes from northern Sweden and Finland. The vocal ensemble also has a very clear link to Luleå University of Technology and the activities at the school of music.

– The vocal ensemble is my instrument for artistic development at the university. Repetition work is performed at the school of music and we have very close cooperation with both colleagues and students, says Erik Westberg.

Preferred Swedish lyrical songs

For the opening of the parliamentary year, Parliament wished to hear Swedish lyrical songs and despite the solemn occasion, Erik Westberg is preparing his vocal ensemble in the same way as before each concert.

– It is clear that when the radio and television are in place, in addition to members of parliament and other guests of honor, the program must be well thought out and sung with excellence. But one always has the responsibility to give the audience the best experience regardless of numerical and the place where the performance takes place, says Erik Westberg.

The opening of parliament will take place on 13 September and marks the beginning of the Swedish Riksdag working year after the summer break.
