Physics Professor receives prestigious award

Published: 11 March 2016

Alberto Vomiero, Chair Professor of Experimental Physics at Luleå University of Technology, has been appointed Fellow of The Royal Society of Chemistry, FRSC, for his great contribution in chemistry.

The world’s leading chemistry community, RSC, gives the prestigious status Fellow to researchers that have made outstanding contributions in chemistry.

Produced results in three countries

– It is a great honor for me to be awarded the FRSC title, because it is the result of a peer-review process, and it is always hard to convince your peers of the importance of your achievements, and of the value of your research. Therefore I am very proud of this award, especially considering that my results have been produced in labs in three different countries; Italy, Canada and Sweden.

Alberto Vomiero’s research focuses on the chemistry of materials; like improving the functional properties of nanomaterials that will be used in next generation solar cells and photo electrochemical cells.

Changes material at the Nano level

– The basic idea is to develop a common platform for low-cost, high-performance and environmentally friendly new materials used in energy-related applications. A change of materials at the nanoscale offers a number of benefits compared to their massive bulk counterpart, says Alberto Vomiero.

To become a Fellow of the RSC is something Alberto Vomiero believes will mean more than just being a new line in his résumé.

– It says something about my commitment to want to make a difference with my research, not only in academia but also for society at large. The award is an advantage when I, for example, seek research funding through projects.
