– Hiring in healthcare is a recent and relevant example of a comprehensive change in society, which reflects the fact that we have gotten a more flexible working life. I hope my research will provide a better understanding of how an increased number of temporarily employees affects the organization of work and conditions, with a special focus on the conditions for learning and development, says Anna Berg Jansson, who’s a researcher and Senior Lecturer at Luleå University of Technology.
She has been awarded junior research grants of close to 3.7 million SEK from Forte (a Swedish Research Council for Health, Working life and Welfare) for a four-year research project, "Boost or brake? Conditions for learning and development in relation to temporary staffing within Swedish healthcare”.
Interviews with nurses
The project has five part-studies:
- A mapping-study of the Swedish county councils use of temporary agency staff.
- A mapping-study of temporary agency nurses in Sweden and conditions for learning and development.
- Interviews with nurses (with temporary and permanent employments) with focus on conditions for learning and development.
- Interviews with executives and HR-personnel at the studied county councils.
- Interviews with executives at the studied temporary staffing agencies.
– Personnel groups in healthcare have become more mixed, with both permanent staff and temporary staff. This means that the organization boundaries become more permeable, which can affect learning and the development of both the individual and the organization. I will look at both, says Anna Berg Jansson.
