Third place for students in Swedish Championships in Economics

Published: 26 May 2016

Three students in Economy from Luleå University of Technology finished on third place in the Swedish Championships in Economics.

– It feels incredibly fun! It will mean a lot for the future that we came this far. The fact that we beat some of the schools that are top rated in Sweden, says Lovisa Gullberg.

Why do you think that your teams reached the third place?

– We all have a passion for economics and are hungry for knowledge. I think the key is that we have managed to preserve so much of what we have learned during our education. In addition, we have different areas that we are particularly good at, which has been of great help during the competition, says Emil Mattisson.

– And we had a really good teamwork. All complemented each other extremely well, says Dennis Ivarsson and Lovisa Gullberg agree.

What knowledge from your education is important in a competition like this?

– Actually, I would say everything. The questions are extremely mixed. They can include everything from accounting policy or a marketing concept to what happens to the Mundell-Fleming graph if Riksbanken pursues expansionary monetary policy. Then there are also many general questions about finance, about Nobel Prize winners or who is managing director of a particular company. It is therefore important that one is reasonably educated and follows the events around the world, said Dennis Ivarsson.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

– Next year will Luleå University of Technology arrange the Swedish Championships in Economics and I would urge all economists to apply for the competition. It was a fun experience and we made many new contacts. If you do not compete, I know that the project group will look for students who want to be involved in organizing it all, says Emil Mattisson.
