Popular reopening of Vetenskapens hus

Published: 4 February 2020

More than 300 people came to the reopening of Vetenskapens hus in Luleå and the queue rang long outside the entrance. A strong reason was the lecture with Professor Jessica K. Ljungberg on Brain Training for a long and healthy life.

– Vetenskapens hus is an important asset for the university. We live in a time of fact resistance and then it is even more important that we have a good platform for reaching out with our research to the public. We want to reach out with our research - so warmly welcomed to Vetenskapens hus, Pär Weihed, said, Pro Vice-Chancellor at Luleå University of Technology.

With a focus on current topics

Vetenskapens hus in Luleå, which is a collaboration between IVA, LKAB and Luleå University of Technology, will continue to offer open events with a focus on research, education and artistic development, in high-level subjects. Luleå University of Technology is investing a lot in creating an exciting and up-to-date program and will mix daytime lectures with debates, evening events and culture.

– It is so great that so many of you have come here today and that we are getting such positive attention about the fact that Vetenskapens hus is back in operation. You are also warmly welcomed with your own ideas and wishes about activities and lectures, Tina Forsberg, said Luleå University of Technology's operations coordinator for the Science House.

Wish to spread knowledge

– As many as we are here today in Vetenspens hus, I don´t think I've seen and it bodes well for the future. The purpose of Vetenskapens hus for IVA is to disseminate knowledge and information on, above all, technology. For that purpose such a meeting place is fantastic. A good restaurant also contributes. Welcome back Unique Kitchen & Café, Erik Höglund, said, chairman of IVA Nord.

– LKAB has been involved from the start and it is important for us to be part of the development in Norrbotten, from the university we get our future leaders and engineers, Leif Boström, said, Senior Vice President Business area Special Products LKAB and chairman of the board of the Science House.

Tips on upcoming lectures

In conjunction with the inauguration, a couple of points from the spring program were revealed, including a lecture on Thursday, February 6, on New fire risks with increased photovoltaic installations, where Michael Försth and Alexandra Byström, researcher at Luleå University of Technology, present a report which states that the regulations are not included in the rapid development. On March 23, it is time for the Girjas seminar, Historical Argumentation - the role of the state and the courts, among others, Professor Christina Allard. The seminar highlights the significance of historical sources and legal concepts and their interpretation in the case between the state and Girja's Sami village on hunting and fishing rights (the Girjas case). The seminar also touches on other goals where the rights of the Sami villagers have been the focus, as well as the consequences of Girjasdom .

Vetenskapens hus will also try to arrange afterwork, sometimes with a scientific touch.
