Students were treated to a sparkling anniversary

Published: 3 September 2021

In September 1, 2021, it was exactly 50 years ago since the first 50 students came to Luleå University of Technology. The anniversary was celebrated by treating students to chocolate and non-alcoholic sparkling cider to the tunes of swinging 70's music.

– It feels good that we can finally meet the students again and that we can celebrate 50 years of education, even if we are still cautious, says Anita Byström, project manager for the university anniversary who together with communicator Karin Sjöberg, offered apple cider, outdoors in Regnbågsallén.

During the autumn, the university has planned a series of events to draw attention to the anniversary. Anita Byström hopes that they can be implemented with as few restrictions as possible.

One of the students who passed by to have a glass of cider was Amanda Cabbe from Huskvarna.

– I study Bachelor Programme in Health Guidance, Major Health Promotion because I am interested in health. It was a friend who told me about the course. It feels great fun and nice to start studying at Luleå University of Technology.

A little later, Emma Nilsson came with her newfound friends to the Master Programme in Sustainable Energy Engineering.

– It feels important to be able to contribute to a better future by creating sustainable energy sources.

The choice of Luleå University of Technology felt natural for Emma Nilsson who is from Stugun in Jämtland.

– I thrive in Norrland. I like snow and winter, and skiing and snowmobiling.
