Material fatigue is the most common fault in mechanical equipment. Loads such as vibrations, pressure, temperature, water waves and wind loads can cause fatigue.
Learn to analyze and make decisions about material fatigue to provide the desired longevity for your products or processes.

In this course, you will learn the principles behind material fatigue and gain knowledge on how to use injury rules and analyze stress cycles in different components and cases. You will also learn how geometric design affects the life of fatigue and especially how improved design increases the life of the components.

Gain experience in welding design and choice of finishing methods for best results and fatigue life, as well as experience in how to perform tests and evaluate test data.

Who is the course for?
The primary target group is engineers and technicians who work at industrial companies with research and development, including laboratories to test material fatigue. The course would also benefit doctoral students in mechanics, technical design and materials technology, etc. who are interested in learning how to evaluate components and systems with regard to material fatigue.

The course will be of interest to those who want to learn how to make components and systems last the desired lifespan, how to choose materials and evaluate design aspects and increase their knowledge in performing fatigue tests and fault investigations. Dimensioning and design of components and systems, finishing of welds is an important part of the course. The course will be of interest to laboratory engineers as it covers the methods of fatigue testing and the student will participate in a virtual laboratory session, evaluate fatigue data and calculate fatigue properties.

After passing the degree, it is possible to apply for 3 higher education credits.
