About the course

The technology used in the military and other demanding organizations must in many cases be able to work as well in hot and dry environments as they should in snow, ice and cold.

During the cold season, the material is exposed to greater stresses due to increased loads due to ice and cold, but the material also wears more because materials become brittle, oils become viscous and because electronics can be damaged by condensation that occurs during heat exchanges.

The course is compressed into five training days. The teaching takes place in the form of lessons and laboratory work. The course ends with an exam.


Pär Marklund is an assistant professor at the Department of Machine Elements and responsible for the course. Experts from industry in collaboration with the university's researchers in machine elements, materials, energy and strength theory provide the education.
