School on Scientific Basis

Published: 2 February 2021

The Education Act requires that education in schools must rest on a scientific basis. This course helps you as a teacher to understand how you can and should conduct research at your school, and how you can translate the research results to the benefit of your teaching.

About the course

The course is based on the current Education Act, which requires that the education in the school must rest on a scientific basis and proven experience.

The focus of the course is on teachers acquiring such knowledge that they should be able to conduct research in the local school's practice. The scientific theories and methods that form the basis of the course are adapted to such research where the results can be used in the work for full goal fulfillment. The course thus becomes an important prerequisite for the systematic quality work in the school and for self-produced scientific knowledge. The goal is for teachers to be able to conduct research after completing the course, the results of which can be used in teaching.

The course is aimed at municipalities and schools where all teachers (in a school or in a municipality) together want to create collective conditions for a scientific organization in the school that operates in parallel with the didactic organization.

Teacher and course coordinator is Professor Tomas Kroksmark. Tomas has extensive experience of this type of school development and has been active in a large number of municipalities and schools. Most famous is the Model School in Gränna, which increased goal fulfillment from about 40 percent to close to 100 percent in five years. Tomas Kroksmark also has a network that includes school experts from China, Singapore, South Korea and Finland. More information is available at:
