Can 3D printing revolutionize the Swedish manufacturing industry?
3D printing (so-called additive manufacturing) of metals was developed during the 1990s, but never had any success, mainly due to the lack of mechanical properties in the printed material. There were several reasons for the lack of properties, but great progress has been made since then. Johnny Sjöström, Head of SSAB Special Steels and new Associate Professor (Docent) of Materials Mechanics at Luleå University of Technology, talks about the benefits of 3D printing during this lecture. He reveals how to succeed with successful 3D printing as well as talking about market expectations and market needs in the area.
