What is it that makes our elite skiers and biathletes so good? Three who know are Professor HC Holmberg, biathlon legend Wolfgang Pichler and former national team captain Joakim Abrahamsson. Can 3D printing revolutionize the Swedish manufacturing industry?

3D printing (so-called additive manufacturing) of metals was developed during the 1990s, but never had any success, mainly due to the lack of mechanical properties in the printed material. There were several reasons for the lack of properties, but great progress has been made since then. Datacenter (DC) cultivation is a project in which we highlight the need for increased food self-sufficiency in Norrbotten and the use of waste heat from data centers could be an important puzzle piece to increase the proportion of locally produced food.

Osteoporosis - the common silent disease

Osteoporosis is one of our most common folk diseases. At age 70, one third of all women and one tenth of men are osteoporosis, and the disease causes 8.9 million fractures in the world each year. Despite this, no preventive checks are made to detect osteoporosis in time. Listen to Carina Nilsson and Birgitta Lindberg, researcher at Luleå University of Technology, and Siv Ögren from the Osteoporosis Association in Norrbotten when they talk about what it might be like to live with the disease.
