Quarterly Update

Published: 22 March 2016

Each quarter, the IT-service sends out important updates for your computer. The updates fix security holes and bugs so that your computer works as intended.

When it's time to run an update, a screen will pop up on your screen with the heading LTU - Quarterly update for Windows computers.

NOTE: The update is only visible when you are connected via the network cable at LTU or via VPN.

You can start the update by clicking the Start installation now. The update will resume directly and usually takes about 10-15 minutes.

It is also possible to select a suitable time during the day when an automatic start of the update to occur. You can select new time if you want. If you get the update after the last selectable time (18:00) the update will start 15 minutes after that.

An alert box pops up five minutes before the reboot. This is to remind you to save documents or to choose a later time if you change your mind.

We recommend that quarterly updates be run before we troubleshoot computers since these updates are made to fix known bugs.
