Staffan Lundström has been appointed Swedish representative in IUTAM

The Swedish board for mechanics has appointed Professor Staffan as Swedish representative in the General assembly of IUTAM, International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. The general assembly is the highest authority of the Union.

IUTAM was formally formed 1946 but fragments of the organisation can be tracked to 1922.

The Union organizes a number of symposium, summer courses and conferences every year within the area of theoretical and applied mechanics. Every fourth year a larger congress takes place, the International Congresses on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ICTAM) that next time August 19-24, 2012 will be located to Beijing.

Staffan replaces Prof Anders Boström, Chalmers. Other representatives for Sweden in the general assembly are Professor Bengt Lundberg Uppsala University and Professor Dan Henningson, KTH.
