A research collaboration between Luleå University of Technology and the School of Architecture, Design & Planning at the University of Sydney has been ongoing for a number of years and has resulted in a visit of Professor Mathew Aitchison, the head of their Applied Design Lab, to ISC with a delegation of industry representatives and researchers in 2017 to learn more about Swedish industrialized construction companies and related research.
"Our experience in the flow efficiency work led to a concrete collaborative project to conduct a flow efficiency analysis in a factory for prefabrication of wall and floor elements, conducted in July 2018", says Brian Wernicke, a PhD student at the division of Industrialized and Sustainable Construction at Luleå University of Technology.
The study resulted in increased awareness of flow efficiency for the operations, suggestions for its improvement and ideas for continued work to link the plant effectively to the overall construction process. A representative of the study´s company expressed the importance of improving the efficiency of the plant so that it could “become an important building block in the company's pursuit to achieve mass customization”.
