50 million are invested in a better outdoor environment

Akademiska Hus now invests 50 million on improvements to the external environment at Luleå University of Technology in Luleå. The efforts made go beyond the regular maintenance plan, will be going on for three years, and thus be ready for the university's grand 50th anniversary.

 – These are improvements that should be visible to students, employees and visitors, and should be implemented as soon as possible. We would rather try experimenting with mobile building solutions than to sit and draw for several years, Richard Olsson, says, Head of internal and external environment at Luleå University of Technology.

Luleå University of Technology in Luleå is thought to function as a well-functioning city center. This means that visitors, students and staff should be able to approach the university equally well from different sources and feel welcome regardless of the direction they connect. It is this basic idea that will now be greatly improved when Akademiska Hus invests fifty million on the external environment.

Akademiska Hus's intention to improve is to provide clear fast effects and raise the level of the perceived external environment at the university. First of all, getting a real upgrade and a lift is that part of the Vintergatan, which runs from the bus stop down to Universitetsvägen, past the new university library and up to the junction at the Regnbågsallén, the so-called, Representationsentrén. At the center of Vintergatan there are plans to build a meeting place where students, visitors and staff can enjoy both spring and winter sun.

– We will build it in wood material so that we see it is being used and how we can develop it, instead of using stationary heavy concrete slabs, Richard Olsson, says.

The investments on the external environment also mean that special efforts will be made in connection with the university's geographical location with winter and snow.
