Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn will start her term already tomorrow, 1 December 2017.

Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, born 1968, first came to Luleå University of Technology in 1989, as a student at the bachelor programme in systems sciences. She presented her doctoral dissertation ”A multi-modal approach to soft systems methodology” in 2002. She is a professor of information systems and has since 2011 been the university’s pro vice-chancellor.

– I know Luleå University of Technology and my colleagues know me. I am proud to now get the opportunity to lead the development of the university and work to further strengthen the quality and attractiveness of our research and education. We are already successful, and in many ways a role model for other institutions of higher education, when it comes to competence provision, profiling and collaborations within the academia and with the industry, says Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, adding:
– An increased national and international competition stresses the importance of further developing our work in these areas.
Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn will be Luleå University of Technology’s sixth vice-chancellor and the third woman on the post. The previous vice-chancellors are Lars Nordström, Torbjörn Hedberg, Ingegerd Palmér, Pia Sandvik and Johan Sterte.
