Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, Vice-Chancellor at Luleå University of Technology who presented the award, said that the award for Distinguished initiatives for the benefit of education at undergraduate and advanced level is an important and very honorary award. Few occupational groups are more important for the development of a society than just teachers.Good teachers create joy, interest, understanding and self-confidence.
– A good teacher has many times greater influence on students 'educational choices than so-called aptitude and parents' background. I myself often chose courses according to the teachers I really appreciated and only secondarily according to the subject content, Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, said.
She emphasized that teachers are important because they not only shape the future but they also shape the future of the future. She was therefore proud and happy that the university has such knowledgeable and committed teachers, interested and driving supervisors and such good study environments.
–Today, we will pay tribute to two of these teachers who have excelled through great and outstanding contributions in our educations. Motivation Johanna Sundbaum: " Johanna was involved in initiating and actively pedagogically participating in the theater project of the nursing education,´Living Design´, where students on their own get to meet patients with mental or geriatric illness played by professional actors. Through the meeting they get a better understanding for how certain diseases / symptoms appear in reality as a complement to the course literature, at the same time as they are trained to be independent.The students valued these patient meetings a lot and in reflections afterwards they expressed that the symptoms became more vivid but that they also understood the importance of have good knowledge to be able to take care of the patients in the best way.
Johanna has many years of experience in teaching, which together with her solid subject competence, research and clinical work guarantees high quality in learning. Johanna is constantly looking for challenges in the classroom and uses various forms of pedagogical tools to enable students' participation and to increase the quality of learning. "
