On Thursday six persons who have promoted development of knowledge and education received scholarships for their efforts. The prices were awarded during a lunch at Vetenskapens hus in Luleå.

– Ever since the university was founded, cooperation with the surrounding society has played a mayor role. This award is a great way to show today's students and teachers that we appreciate their efforts, said Vice-Rector Erik Höglund when he greeted everyone.

Award to promote education

Erik Höglund presented the winners of the university's educational price to pay attention to teachers for their efforts. Agneta Sandström, Adjunct Clinical Lecturer in Nursing at Luleå University of Technology, received the price because she has worked in a very clear way to strengthen the student placement for nursing students.

– We see a lack of nurses and investing in the students in this way is important, she says.

Damiano Varagnolo, Associate Senior Lecturer in Control Engineering at Luleå University of Technology, received the award for his interest and commitment to educational issues.

– The university environment here is the best I have worked in! This is a price to my entire working group, he says.

Price builds bridges to the academy

Glenn Berggård, Norrbotten County Council, distributed their annual scholarship in memory of Elisabeth Holmgren. The price that will encourage knowledge development and build bridges between the Academy and Norrbotten County Council went to Ulrika Strömbäck, PhD Student at Luleå University of Technology. She received it for her important research on patients recurring in a second myocardial infarction.

– We are now starting the next part of the project, says Ulrika Strömbäck, who in her further research will meet people who suffered from two heart attacks.

Jenny Stadin from Swedbank distributed three scholarships from Rune and Märta Ströms foundation to students who have demonstrated good results. Johan Reimhage, and Josefine Sundström, students at the Master Programme in Sustainable Energy Engineering, and Niklas Pekkari, student at the Bachelor Programme in Sociology at Luleå University of Technology, received a scholarship of SEK 15,000 each.
