1.9 billion year-old ores
In the Falun mine, copper, zinc, lead and smaller amounts of gold and silver have been mined for at least 800 years until 1992. Since 2001, the mine has been a world heritage site. Now, ore researcher Tobias Kampmann has determined the geological age of the ore body to ca. 1.9 billion years in a dissertation, in which also the geometry and geochemistry of the ores were analyzed.
