Swedish companies are good at EU funding for development

The results from the EU's first phase of the framework program Horizon 2020's announcements show that Swedish small and medium-sized enterprises have been good at utilizing the instruments available for innovation and business development.

Horizon 2020 is the EU's framework program for funding research as well as innovation and growth. It has about 80 billion euros to allocate up until 2020. Innovative Swedish company has granted close to five per cent of the total contracted money for the first period.

- LTU Business AB is one of seven Swedish support offices that provide information and support to small and medium enterprises that are aiming for upshifting of development funds from the European Commission, says business developer Stefan Dahlhielm at LTU Business AB.

Of the available budget Swedish organizations, since Horizon 2020 launched until October 2015, the total contracted project funding for 399 million euros. This represents 3.3 per cent of all the funding. Participation in more than 600 projects with around 300 Swedish organizations means that Sweden is placed in eighth place on the list of the funds granted. Norrbotten such participation is in sixth place among twenty-one counties - which is very good.
