In media: Equality in academia

Published: 3 December 2013

The government wants to increase equality in the recruitment of professors to universities. The technical universities have different opinions on how to achieve this. Professor Ylva Fältholm speaks about the gender work on Luleå University of Technology.

She says that LTU has looked at how male and female candidates were discussed and that it was perceived as odd when a woman's application was not complete, but not for men. Or that it was considered to be a sign of social competence when males was referring to their family, but not in the case of women.

– This had ultimately no impact on the outcome of the recruitment, but says something about how you look and judge men and women, says Ylva Fältholm.
