Laboratories and equipment

We carry out extensive laboratory activities in both teaching and research. These are some of our laboratories at the Division.

Engineering Psychology at LTU is equipped with an experimental lab containing 5 computer workstations dedicated solely to psychological experiments (EPrime, Matlab, etc.), a driving simulator (Volvo XC 90 high fidelity fixed base), a simple desktop-based driving simulator with the ISO standard Lane Change Test, programmable haptic controls with adaptive feedback, a four-channel synchronized video capture system (VMix), eye-tracking equipment, fixed cameras, Face lab, BioTrace+ software and NeXus: a wireless 10-channel physiological monitoring and biofeedback platform.

Furthermore, the HRILab @Engineering Psychology is currently being equipped with two NAO robots. Engineering Psychology is currently also in the process of acquiring a 64-channel EEG system, mobile and stationary eyetracking systems, biometric sensors including GSR, ECG, EMG and respiratory rate. Engineering Psychology has also access to Sound Studio and Acoustic Laboratory with eco-free room used for advanced sound tests, Human Health and Science Lab – with 3D Movement tracking with wireless sensors, Human Factors lab, and Industry Robotics lab.

Depict Lab (Decision, Emotion, Perception & Cognition Laboratory) is a behavioral lab with equipment for objective data collection at LTU. Via Depict Lab, we can measure and interpret human cognitive processes and how thought processes then are transformed into action. The equipment is part of a procurement process (during 2016) but will include a central synchronization system of data, eye-trackers: stationary and mobile (i.e. goggles), EEG-sensors, other biophysical sensors and probably a face reader and motion capture.  Depict LAB consists of three stationary but flexible laboratory environments. The environments are adjustable since they should fit many different research settings, including Human-Robot Interaction, Human-Human Interaction, Human-Computer Interaction and more. The Depict LAB also includes a mobile laboratory setting that could be brought out into field research. Data can for example be collected in a process control room or in a car driving on real roads.

DEPICT LAB (Decision, Emotion, Perception & Cognition Laboratory) is a laboratory where scientists can visualise and analyse human behaviour using the latest technology in the field. The measuring equipment makes it possible to study human behaviour and subconscious cognitive processes. The lab is an important resource to aggregate and combine different measurement methods.
