On the 19th of October, Joel Lantz, student in the Bachelor Programme in Industrial Design Engineering at Luleå University of Technology, received an award for this year's best thesis in Lean. Lean is a method of business development aimed to maximise value and minimise waste. The price was awarded at the Lean Forum 2017 in Göteborg, and according to the jury, Joel Lantz succeeded in showing the importance of creating an overall picture of the efficiency and losses of a production flow.
– This award shows that I have acquired good knowledge of production development and lean from my the Bachelor Programme in Industrial Design Engineering," says Joel Lantz, who currently works as a production engineer at GKN Aerospace.
At the same time, the Swedish Lean Award was annouced to pay attention to role models that inspire continued good lean development in Sweden. Permobil Produktion AB, which manufactures customise electric wheelchairs was awarded. Three alumni from Luleå University of Technology participated to receive the price.
Since 2011, the company has increased its competence and developed its lean work. According to the jury's motivation, the management develops the lean work with great confidence in the skills of all employees. They have developed a production system where elegant solutions for planning and visual information assemble customised products with great variety.
Lean Forum is an association that is best known for its conferences withing the field of lean.
