– The conference is an important meeting place for all who want the knowledge and tools to enhance the attractiveness of a place for residents and visitors as well as businesses, says Malin Lindberg, Associate professor in Gender and Technology at Luleå University of Technology and leader of the project Place innovation in Swedish Lapland.
The two year research and development project (financed by R&D Fund of the Swedish Tourism & Hospitality Industry, BFUF) is a collaboration between Luleå University of Technology and Piteå Science Park. The main goal has been to strengthen the tourism industry in Swedish Lapland, but also to contribute to a more attractive community.
The results are presented on Tuesday on a conference attended by entrepreneurs from the hospitality industry, representatives from Swedish Lapland Visitors Board, The Swedish Agency for Economical and Regional Growth, The Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKL) and the Swedish Parliament.
According to the results from the project, it is important to take a holistic approach to a place and get rid of “silo mentalities” between and within authorities, companies and organizations.
– The next step after the conference is to implement the tools from Place innovation at municipalities, regions and destinations. The tools will be freely available on www.platsinnovation.nu, says Malin Lindberg.
