What was the purpose of your visit?
– To explore the possibility of establishing a faculty and student foreign exchange programme between Lulea University of Technology and the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
What have you been doing here?
– During our week in Lulea between 17 and 21 September, we were taken on a tour of the university campus. We also had several planning meetings with staff from the research subject History, including Dr Roine Viklund and Dr Josefin Rönnback (who hosted our visit). In addition, Professor Hiralal gave a lecture on Women’s Role and Contributions to the Freedom Struggle in South Africa. This seminar was very interactive with LTU-students participating and raising important issues in the discussion. Furthermore, both Professor Hiralal and Dr Noble presented on their past and present research at a departmental seminar on Thursday, 20 September attended by staff and post-graduate students.
What experiences do you bring back?
– A well run research subject and division and a university with exceptional facilities and excellent support for student and staff development. In addition, a tour of the Norrbotten county, enriched our knowledge of Swedish and Nordic histories. Our trip to Jokkmokk, provided insights to Sami culture and history. Overall a very rewarding experience. Look forward to returning to Lulea soon!
