– It's great to be able to titulate oneself Swedish champion in basketball. It takes a lot of time and effort and the gold is a big reward for it, says Ulrika Holmqvist, 23-year-old forward who’s been playing with Luleå Basket since 2016.
She's also a student at Luleå University of Technology’s Bachelor Programme in Sociology.
At the university she’s accompanied by three other elite players in basketball: Luleå Basket’s Fanny Mosesson, who’s studying the Bachelor Programme in Business and Economics, and Rebecka Garderyd, student at the Master Programme in Industrial and Management Engineering, and BC Luleå’s Anton Saks, who’s studying the Bachelor Programme in Business and Economics.
Student and athlete
Ulrica Holmqvist sees it as a great advantage that she in Luleå can combine being an elite athlete with her studies in sociology.
– It takes a lot of planning and prioritization, but for me it works very well to combine studies and sports. It's important for me to get an education, says Ulrica Holmqvist, who would like to work for a humanitarian aid organization in the future.
Ulrica, Fanny Mosesson and Rebecka Garderyd became Swedish Champions on April 26, when their team Luleå Basket beat Udominate in the fourth game in the final series.
Anton Saks and his BC Luleå won the gold last night, when the team beat Södertälje in the fifth game in the final series.
