– It's a big competition with high internal competitiveness to represent your university. On the 8th of March the students wrote a three-hour exam to qualify, says Isabella Holmberg, Contest Manager who also studies the program in Business Administration and Industrial Engineering at Luleå University of Technology.
Valuation of the schools
The team with three students who qualified from Luleå University of Technology will compete against 21 other universities in an additional exam at the conference in May. In the final competition which takes place on the 13th of May, the teams will answer questions in front of the audience. The questions are based on theories and skills included in the courses of all the economic program in Sweden. That makes the contest a measure of value between the universities. Daniel Örtqvist, Senior Lecturer at Luleå University of Technology, says the subject of economic are doing fine in comparison with other universities.
– We have good students in our courses and last year they won the third place in the competition. Luleå University of Technology has a specialisation that is demanded on the labor market, he says.
Visitors from all over the country
Students participating in the competition will have something to tell in their résumé, and for the university it is a profit to be hosting the event which is expected to attract more than 300 visitors from all over the country.
– The competition has been held for over thirty years and it's great that we have a good student organisation that will arrange the event now. The cooperation with other institutions is important to put our university on the map, says Daniel Örtqvist.
Isabella Holmberg is of course focused on selecting the Swedish champion in economy, but she also wants to create a good event.
– It is a contest where all schools integrate with each other and we'll have fun along the way when selecting the winners, she concludes.
