Published: 20 September 2019

A new section in research at the Department of Health Sciences at Luleå University of Technology has now been opened. The aim is to coordinate the research programs within the department. It's called the Academy of Health of the Future.
– This includes the topic Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Physiotherapy and our new subject Medical Technology, says Stina Rutberg, leader of the academy.

It was in solemn forms that the new academy was inaugurated, with cider in the glass. Lars Nyberg, dean, started by giving speeches.

The purpose of the academy is to create a structured and larger research education environment that is common to all doctoral students in the health field.

– We will carry out cross-cutting learning activities within the health perspective, methodology and ethics in the form of recurring courses and seminar activities, says Åsa Engström, professor of Nursing.

A total of 22 doctoral students will be included in the academy.

The Norrbotten Region and the healthcare in the municipalities in the county are also involved.

Karin Zingmark, adjunct professor of Nursing, notes that the investment is beneficial for the development of care in both the Norrbotten Region and the county's municipalities.
