Ten nurses have now completed a commissioned education, organized by Luleå University of Technology, in order to be able to assist in the operations.

-It feels great that we could find ways to implement this program, says Åsa Engström, assistant professor in the Department of Nursing, Department of Health Sciences at Luleå University of Technology (LTU).
The nurses will now be introduced to the practical elements of the profession by the employer, Norrbotten County Council.
Perioperative nursing education with emphasis on sterile handling during pacemaker insertion started in the spring.
The nurses have been trained in infection control, microbiology, cardiology and perioperative nursing.
While they attended the course, participants have worked with their regular duties. Therefore, the lectures in the course has been held at the Sunderby hospital and online.
