Occupational Students visit social center in Chile

Published: 25 January 2016

Karin Laursen and Josefine Leander Nilsson study last semester at the occupational therapy program. They conduct their final thesis in Chile, where they will describe the intervention and models that occupational therapists use to support their work with people with dementia.
Follow their journey on their blog.

What are your expectations for the trip?

– Ofcourse we are excited about how things will turn out. We have an idea of our study, but because we do not know the language, we must rely on our contact person who can both Swedish and English. We will probably get new knowledge about how they work to support people with dementia. They are working to integrate people with dementia in the community and try to avoid as far as possible that they should be institutionalized or being hospitalized, says Karin Laursen.

What will you blog about?

– We will write about our experiences of how occupational therapists in Chile work, but also of our experience of staying in a different culture. You will also take part of our attempts to learn Spanish. Then we'll publish pictures of course, says Josefine Leander Nilsson.
