– We have a great need for trained nurses and an important factor in being able to recruit more is that the education is now in Norrbotten again. This is a profit for both us and the students, everyone does not have the opportunity to go to other places to study, Jeanette Viklund, says, head of healthcare at anesthesia, surgery and intensive care at Sunderby Hospital.
Specialist Nursing, Theatre Care, is one of the occupational groups where Region Norrbotten is today most dependent on hired staff. With more surgical nurses in the county, the accessibility of the people in Norrbotten, that need surgery is increased.
– It feels really fun to be able to offer yet another sought-after education at the advanced level where we train for skills that are in demand and that make social benefits, Åsa Engström, says, professor of nursing at Luleå University of Technology.
The program includes that the students must do practice on an operation unit. Within Region Norrbotten, it has been ensured that 17 people can do their work placement in the county. In an operation unit, you work in teams focusing on one patient at a time. The surgical nurse is a supervisor in the operating room and is responsible for hygiene and sterility.
– We have good competence on the teacher side to carry out this specialist training and, since we have secured VFU sites in the county, the prerequisites for the education are optimal, Ulrica Strömbäck, says, training leader Specialist Nurse specializing in emergency care, at Luleå University of Technology
