Department of Arts, Communication and Education

The Department of Arts, Communication and Education is an academic venue which includes both the School of Music and the Theatre Academy. Artistic and scientific perspectives on knowledge and learning intertwine at our department.

We have programmes in media, education, music, theater and dance. Research and artistic development is an important part of our business and the department has a large number of professors and lecturers involved in both research and teaching.

Honory Doctors 2018 at Luleå University of Technology

Luleå University of Technology’s Honorary Doctors of 2018 are Lars Martinson, CEO of Martinsons, a world-leading company in wood products industry, Lilian Ryd a cultural historian and author of, among other works, the award-winning book Kvinnor i väglöst land, and Gertrud Åström, one of Sweden’s foremost gender equality experts, who for centuries has pursued gender equality issues in Sweden.
