Minister Visit from Iraq

LTU was visited on Thursday and Friday (24 and 25 May) by representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research in Iraq.

1st Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Salam H. Khoshnaw and Dr. Batool Almousawi, cultural attaché at the Iraqi embassy in Stockholm visited on Thursday and Friday, 24 and 25 May LTU with a view to strengthening the already close ties between Iraq and LTU. The minister was informed of LTU and the Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural resources engineering by Dept. Head Ulla Grönlund.

An important part of the visit to the LTU was to meet and talk to the Iraqi graduate students who are active in the University. In the current situation is the total of 15 people spread across several institutions. Coordinator of the research students is Professor Nadhir Al-Ansari, who also took part during the visit. All graduate students were very excited and grateful that they received a scholarship from Iraq in order to pursue graduate studies at the University. They expressed great satisfaction and gratitude to the LTU and its representatives that this possibility exists.

The ability to extend the current cooperation and possibly adopt more graduate students in various fields were discussed. The minister visited several laboratories in order to gain an understanding of research opportunities at the University. The minister expressed great satisfaction over the good relations that exist between Iraq and the LTU and desired an enhanced exchange in the future. Cultural Attaché Dr. Batool Almousawi also expressed his deep appreciation for the work done at LTU and was pleased that the minister's visit could be conducted on short notice.
