Over 100 people came to congratulate the Alumni of the Year at Luleå University of Technology. The festive ceremony celebrated award winners, Maria Ågren, Director General of the Swedish Transport Agency, and Olov Renberg, one of the founder of BehavioSec. Both received a prize and congratulations at Vetenskapens hus (House of Science).

Tuesday night's ceremony attracted many students and alumni to the House of Science, where they were treated an aperitif and buffet. The festivities began with the singing of the choir Snaps Academy and then the received Year Alumni in 2016, Maria Ågren and Olov Renberg got up on stage to receive congratulations, diploma, flowers and the classic glass statue, a block of ice with an L, by the Vice-Chancellor Johan Sterte, that looked out over the banquet hall:

– It feels wonderful that there are so many people here tonight and we have such deserving winners. This year's alumni show that one can go far in life if you study hard and take advantage of opportunities, said Johan Sterte.

What does Alumni of the Year mean for you as a student?

– Above all, I become interested to see what opportunities are available and I also become convinced that I have chosen the right university.

– More than anything, it is an inspiration and one becomes aware of what one can do.

Emil Vidmark, Master Programme in Computer Science and Engineering

– It is very inspiring and you want to focus more at your studies; you get motivatied.
