The architect Anindita Mandal received trainee

Published: 20 June 2016

The architect Anindita Mandal from Mumbai University in India has got an internship at SBN via Short route. The program is for people with university education who lived in Sweden for less than three years. It will increase the chances of getting a job consistent with their academic training.

- It is a very good way for me to get a view of what the courses in architecture includes here in Sweden compared to India and a good opportunity to learn Swedish better, says Anindita Mandal, who holds a Ph.D. in Architecture in Auckland, New Zealand.

New approaches

A year ago, she began reading Swedish at SFI in Lulea. Now she got an internship at SBN at Luleå University of Technology. Anindita Mandal is an architect from the Mumbai University in India and moved to Luleå when her husband got a doctoral student position at Luleå University of Technology. In the Architect research group, she has now got an internship with Professor Kristina L Nilsson as supervisor. By having a different background in the same area Anindita Mandal already providing new insights into existing patterns of such courses in the department, as requested and she did it on swedish.

- When we had a review of our specialisation of urban design on advanced level you raised a lot in the discussion. We are very happy to have you here and we are glad that you are active in the discussions. You understand the challenges that exist with regard to the further development of the courses, says Kristina L Nilsson and nods to Anindita Mandal.

Great way to learn languages

Architecture in Mumbai and Luleå are quite different. The focus on sustainable urban development are the same, but of course, the climate, population density, building technology and building regulations are different. It will be an exciting encounter between two both similar and different academic worlds. Anindita Mandal is from the start of their practice at SBN and supervise students as an additional resource in collaboration with the students' regular course teachers. The difference is great to sit and read Swedish grammar books at the school bench and to come out at a workplace that is relevant and practicing everyday language and concepts related to the professional field. Concepts linked to both the Academy and every day language are practised.

- It's very good training for me, trying to understand what help the students need. When I need help to sort out something they wonder about I can go and ask their regular teachers. I like to teach, it's interesting to talk to students and hear what their ideas are, says Anindita Mandal.
In the architecture field, she knows what she is especially passionate about.

- I really like the design. It presents something that people can live and work in, which affect people's lives. It's a big responsibility but very interesting, says Anindita Mandal.

The length of the program Short route is 3-6 months and consists of education and training.

The Short route is a collaborative between LTU Buisness AB, Luleå University of Technology and employment office.

A dozen people have had internship at Luleå University of Technology via Short route since 2010.
