The waste groups identified three waste streams that are large (hundreds of thousands of tons per year), but that does not really fit into the existing management system, they have a low proportion of combustible material to be easily treated by combustion and high percentage to deposited. The priority waste streams are three: Sorting of bulky waste handling and construction and demolition waste, associated soils high in organic material, eg from sawmills, as well as the clatter from eg oil separators at the washes that contain a mixture of organic and inorganic substances.
"In the project, an analysis of material properties (chemical, mechanical, et c) the basis for the development of new management practices that can increase the utilization of the materials and reduce the cost of their treatment",. says Erik Marklund, a doctoral student in Waste Science and Technology at Luleå University of Technology.
The project Too lean to burn Too Fat To dump is a research collaboration between Luleå University of Technology and the company RGS 90. The project is financed by Mistra Innovation with RGS90 Sweden AB and Luleå University of Technology.
