JARS Best Paper Award for Theoretical Innovation

Published: 26 May 2021

"Noise reduction and destriping using local spatial statistics and quadratic regression from Hyperion images" by Mahendra Pal, Alok Porwal, and Thorkild Rasmussen was awarded SPIE Journal of Applied Remote Sensing honors as best paper published in 2020 on theoretical innovation.

Their proposed method was shown to efficiently remove noise primarily from the frequency bands inside or close to the water vapor absorption region, which are very useful and predominantly significant for geological applications.

Mahendra Pal and Thorkild Rasmussen are both at Luleå University of Technology and Alok Porwal is with the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
