Industry day and seminar - Stormwater

Published: 6 March 2022

On February 24, the annual seminar was held for students and professionals in the urban water sector. After almost two years of seminars online, this event was organized on site at Luleå University of Technology with some speakers and also external listeners online.

This year's theme was stormwater and many inspiring presentations were given. Matthias Borris, Swedish Transport Administration spoke about stormwater facilities and the challenges for public roads associated with these facilities. Tim Delshammar, VA SYD gave a presentation entitled "Everything we know that we do not know but would like to know in our endeavor to save the world", ie about the knowledge gaps that still exist regarding stormwater.

Gustav Josefsson Köhler, Sweco, spoke about stormwater management in the industrial transition now taking place in northern Sweden. Hendrik Rujner and Lovisa Renberg, AFRY, presented a green-blue-white plan for Dundret ski resort in the vicinity of Gällivare. Johanna Winberg, Tyréns, spoke about proactive rainfall management with the concept SKAI.

Hanna Malmström, Ramböll, talked about how it is to work with stormwater issues in practice. Finally, Katharina Lange and Snezana Gavric from LTU gave a presentation on microplastics treatment of stormwater as well as metals in sediments from stormwater ponds respectively.

The seminar was attended by 92 participants, of which about 40 students from the master programmes in Civil Engineering and Natural Resources Engineering. Some participated online on Zoom while most of them attended on site. It was obvious that everyone was happy to be able to meet in a social context again!
