Sven Thysell´s 97 anniversary

Four days after his 97 th birthday on September 2 Sven Thysell shared scholarships from The Elsa and Sven Thysells Foundation for Structural Engineering research at Luleå University of Technology.

Three students each received 30,000 kronor. Anders Hösthagen studying cracking in new concrete with application to the new highway bridge over Sundsvallsfjärden. Katalin Orosz studies the reinforcement of existing structures with carbon fiber and Rasoul Nilforoush study the long-term properties of bonded anchors. Other awarded scholarships for further experiments with self-healing of cracks in concrete to researchers Jan-Erik Jonason and Vladimir Ronin, SEK 30 000, and for studies of ductile cracks to Hans Hedlund, SEK 60 000.

In connection with the distribution outlined two of last year's grantees on how they spent the money. Victoria Bonath told about the study of ice in Spitsbergen and Jonny Nilimaa on the strengthening of a railway bridge in Haparanda by biasing with drilled steel rods.

At he ceremony LTU's former headmaster, Ingegerd Palmér, was present and recalled the Foundation's start 16 years ago. Besides the founder Sven Thysell consists Foundation's board of Mats Emborg, Erik Sundström, Jan-Erik Hallkvist and Lennart Elfgren.
