Luleå University of Technology and the construction company Lindbäcks have had a long and profitable collaboration for over 20 years and this collaboration has attracted the interest of construction researchers at UC Berkeley and companies from the Bay Area, California.
"Our cooperation with the construuction company Lindbacks is based on trust and that we understand each other's input values in the work, says Lars Stehn, professor in construction production and technology at Luleå University of Technology.
In California, the problems with high construction costs and thus high rents have created major problems and segregation.
"In San Francisco and the Bay Area, people use a great deal of their salary to pay rent, often well over 30%, and many sometimes commute up to three hours to keep down the rental costs. We also have many homeless, so we have to find ways to build cheaper and more efficient,” says Carol Galante, professor of Affordable Housing and Urban Policy Architecture at UC Berkeley.
The visit to Luleå will hopefully carry fruit in the form of an in-depth cooperation in the coming years.
