The Design Observatory has three rooms. A large, lounge-like room designed to allow scientists to study informal communication, i.e. what happens before and after a formal meeting. There are for example a bar desk, outfited with equipment and technology replicating eye contact during virutal meetings.
The two smaller rooms are flexible and can be converted based on the requirements at hand. The embedded technology is largely invisible. These facilities allow researchers to simulate geographic distances, and from an observatory, study what happens in groups that communicate with one another across the world.
