Experimental Equipment
To aid the quality and trust of computer simulations experiments are important. Our laboratory contain advanced equipment for measuring flow, velocities and pressure by various methods.
LDV
Laser Doppler Velocimetry, also called LDA (Laser Doppler Anemometry), provides the means of measuring flow velocities provided you have visual contact with the flow. This is achieved by constructing a moving diffraction pattern originating from laser beams, allowing the doppler effect to be used for measuring particle velocities in a point. At the division we have a LDV-system from Dantec.

PIV
By PIV (Particle Imaging Velocimetry) instantaneous information of the full flow field is measured by comparing snapshots of a seeded flow. A newly purchased PIV-system is now in use for various research projects at the Fluid Mechanics Laboratory.

Other measuring equipment
Also less complex equipment is used at the Fluid Mechanics laboratory, such as Pitot tubes, mass flow meters and hot wires.
Flow setups
Several stationary flow setups in our lab is used for utilizing measurements with the above equipment.
The water tunnel provides a possibility to study many different setups, including plain channel flow. Transparent walls allow for optical measuring techniques to be used.
The wind tunnel is of open character and includes a balance to measure drag and lift/down force on for instance model vehicles.
