Course contents: A laboratory practical and a CFD practical.
Laboratory practical (SoL, HL)
In this PIV practical/lab you will use our new PIV-system that we have bought specifically for education.The focus is on turbulent jet velocity measurements and specifically chapters 5.2 and 5.3 in Pope (see course literature). You will do the measurements yourselves (work in groups of 2-4 people), export the data and then analyze it in Matlab or a similar program of your choice. One written report per group should be handed in.
CFD practical (AA, GH)
In this CFD-practical you will study the same problem as you do in the lab practical. Quality and trust in the simulations should be considered. You will do the simulations yourselves (work in groups of 2-4 people), export the data and then analyze it in Matlab or a similar program of your choice. One written report per group should be handed in.
Learning outcomes: The students should know about: 1. Experimental methods, and methods to experimentally characterise the flow, and 2. Numerical modelling of turbulent flows.
Course methods: The course will be in the form of a laboratory practical and a CFD practical carried out in groups.
Examination form: Practical reports.
Grading scale: Pass/Fail.
