Department of Engineering Sciences and Mathematics is a factually wide institution with many successful teams, recognized education programs and appreciated teachers.

Our focus is on industrial collaboration AND scientific excellence and we excel at all levels. We have excellent laboratories and world-class equipment in areas such as tribology, materials, energy, electricity, fluid theory, strength theory, wood and bionano composites. Our researchers lead international projects in a number of areas.

Our dedicated teachers contribute to our excellence in education. Just like our good collaboration with industry, which gives students the opportunity to work with sharp project tasks during their education.

LTU collaborates with MAX IV in a unique educational program

A new intersectoral and interdisciplinary project between nine Swedish Universities and MAX IV – a Ph.D. programme called PRISMAS – launches in January 2023. The program is dedicated to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Horizon Europe's essential research and innovation areas. The project will create a connected network of next-generation X-ray experts, enabling various stakeholders to take full advantage of world-leading synchrotron facilities such as MAX IV, while tackling current societal challenges in the same breath.

Tobias Vahlne becomes the new CEO of the Arctic Center of Energy

Tobias Vahlne has been appointed as the new CEO of the Arctic Center of Energy (ACE). Tobias has extensive experience of working in the cross section between academia and industry and most recently came from the role of Senior Business Developer at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. He looks forward to putting the Arctic Center of Energy on the map as a world-leading center of excellence that accelerates the electrification of society

Time to apply to IVA's 100 list

Now the 2023 application to the Royal The Academy of Engineering Sciences' (IVA) 100 list is opened. This year, IVA is calling for research with a focus on climate change, energy supply, welfare technology, cyber security and crisis preparedness.
