Current research

Human motion in changing environments

My area of practice and research is Physiotherapy. I have clinical experience in motion analysis, work physiology, health psychology and rehabilitation. A particular focus in my research is on the significance of the environment, social context and people’s self-efficacy beliefs for the physical performance and mobility.

Located in the subarctic area of northern Scandinavia, the research activities of my group is on exploring how built outdoor environments & seasonal climate variations, as well as people’s balance control, attitudes & experiences affect when a person feels comfortable to move outdoors in winter.

In addition, my research includes the development of IoT and activity recognition systems to support the elderly peoples active and independent living through timely caregiving.

Other assignments: Board member (2018-2021) of the Nordic Society for Circumpolar Health (NSCH), aiming to promote and spread interest in scientific studies of healthcare problems in polar, subpolar, and similar environments.

My teaching

Doctoral degree 2011. In addition to assignments as a director for postgraduate education at the Department and own research, I supervise students at basic and advanced level and are responsible for courses in public health, ergonomics and health at work.
