The wear and tear era is over. What increases the competitiveness of the industry of the future is to succeed in designing a product, for example a car that can be recycled, upgraded and reused time and time again. The Creaternity research initiative is about enabling circular economy by reusing materials and products such as machine components, clothing, electronics, white goods, vehicles and even space junk. Circular economy and a sustainable society require completely new, and perhaps some "new-old", creative innovative solutions, which span across subject boundaries. It is the new graduate school within Creaternity that will form the basis for this at Luleå University of Technology, and you can be part of that investment.
All proposals for doctoral projects in this first call to the graduate school come from researchers who are involved in Creaternity. The doctoral students in the graduate school will be connected to various research groups and research projects where disciplines in both technology, social sciences and the humanities collaborate. Those who lead the graduate school together have many years of experience in leading graduate education, among other things through industry-leading national graduate schools.
It is the various research projects that govern what profile the candidates for the graduate school need to have. What is exciting is the breadth of the projects, which range from more efficient batteries, fiber composites to recycling of space junk and new business models. Above all, it is doctoral students with great personal drive and a willingness to share their ideas that are needed when Creaternity aims for groundbreaking research results in circular economy and sustainability.
Creaternity has a close collaboration with, among others, SKF, Ericsson Research, ABB, Ragn-Sellsföretagen AB and Sweco and Gertrud Åström, company and organizational investigator and gender equality expert and more reputable companies are on their way in. The collaboration with the business community on a broad front ensures that the research investment will benefit Swedish industry and hopefully have a global effect in the transition to sustainability. The graduate school within Creaternity will be a stable base and an inspiring meeting place where unexpected meetings and great synergies can arise.
