Klas Tübinger, Sandvik Coromant, Manager, Product Development – Boring and Drilling Tools, shared his experiences from product development projects where innovation is a part of the daily work. He took off from the view of how business plans initiate new projects, to go deeper into the insights of practical product development. The back bone of the talk was the problematical situations that occur within the collaborative development team. Cross-functional teams are outstanding when it comes to being innovative and coming up with new ideas, that is – when everything works. But, when people have different perspectives, give distinct priority to issues, and have divergent understanding of what it is that is going to be done – what to do then? The answer to that question was given in a summary of characteristics that future product developers need.
