PROGRAM

08.30-09.00 Registration & breakfast

09.00 Welcome
Marcus Liwicki, professor and subject representative, Vice Chancellor for Applied AI, Luleå University of Technology

What does advanced digitization mean?

09:10 Introduction of advanced digitization
Anna Ståhlbröst, professor and subject representative in Information Systems, Luleå University of Technology
The digital transformation of society is accelerating and we are affected in almost every task in our lives. Some influence is positive and developmental, but power needs to be distributed between many different competencies that complement each other so that technological development takes place with a societal perspective and in a democratic, inclusive and responsible way.

09:25 The technologies that make it possible
Marcus Liwicki, professor and subject representative, Vice Chancellor for Applied AI, Luleå University of Technology
AI enables technical systems to perceive their surroundings, manage what they perceive and solve problems, with the aim of achieving a specific goal. AI systems are capable of adapting their behavior by analyzing the effects of previous actions, and of working autonomously. The goal is to try to teach the machines to understand the world in the same way as a human does.

09:40 Digitization that makes a difference in industries – for real!
Markus Sjölund, strategy and business development manager, Mobilaris Industrial Solutions
For more than 20 years, Mobilaris has applied digital solutions to large-scale problems with customers in government, mining and infrastructure. Now the company is working to attack through digitization a problem area that can be found in all the world's industrial facilities - the difficulty in coordinating people, machines, materials and work - and as part of that investment, AI will be a strong component in the development of the future technology portfolio.

09:55 Panel discussion: Advanced digitization now and in the future
Marcus Liwicki, professor and subject representative, Vice Chancellor for Applied AI, Luleå University of Technology
Anna Ståhlbröst, professor and subject representative in Information Systems, Luleå University of Technology
Markus Sjölund, strategy and business development manager, Mobilaris Industrial Solutions

10.10 Morning coffee

Applications

10:40 Regional forces, cutting-edge environments and projects
Marcus Liwicki, professor and subject representative, Vice Chancellor for Applied AI, Luleå University of Technology, Anna Ståhlbröst, professor and subject representative in Information Systems, Luleå University of Technology
Luleå University of Technology has a strong profile in industrial and applied AI and plays an important role in Sweden's skills supply. Since the area is developing very quickly, we need to invest, and if AI is to benefit everyone, coordinated efforts are required.

11:10 Lessons learned when academia and companies work together
Michael Nilsson, project manager at CDT, Luleå University of Technology, Björn Backe, project manager and head of department, Luleå University of Technology, Akshit Saradagi, postdoctoral researcher in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Luleå University of Technology
Important societal functions and the competitiveness of business depend on how innovation can create advantages for Sweden. Via the academy's collaboration with companies, research is converted into innovations. If we are to be truly attractive, only world class counts.

11:25 Predicting trust using AI
Niklas Karvonen, Chief Technology Officer, Substorm
Researchers at Luleå University of Technology, together with the company Substorm, have investigated the possibilities of using AI to determine trust between people in digital communication channels. Trust is an important factor in our everyday life. Before a person decides that they can trust someone or an organization, an assessment is made based on a number of criteria. The goal was to develop a model that should be able to predict the level of trust in interactions between people to prevent e.g.fraud or other harmful behavior where trust is quickly gained and then abused.

11:35 Avoiding disruptions through data-driven decision-making
Joakim Lindström, software developer, Predge
By developing data-driven decision-making processes, researchers at Luleå University of Technology and company Predge hope to be able to predict errors and prevent unwanted stoppages in the mining and railway industries. The purpose of the work is to develop a system that supports and guides organizations in their data-driven decision-making processes. By collecting and analyzing large amounts of data, they can minimize unwanted disturbances, and propose direct measures for increased availability and increased lifespan.

11:45 Panel discussion: AI applications & collaborative projects
Niklas Karvonen, Chief Technology Officer, Substorm
Wolfgang Birk, CTO, Predge
Marcus Liwicki, professor and subject representative, Vice Chancellor for Applied AI, Luleå University of Technology
Anna Ståhlbröst, professor and subject representative in Information Systems, Luleå University of Technology

12.05 We offer lunch

How do we accelerate advanced digitization?

13:25 From industry 4.0 to industry 5.0
Ulf Bodin, professor in Cyberphysical Systems, Luleå University of Technology
While Industry 4.0 was about connecting automation and digitization, Industry 5.0 - the fifth revolution - is collaboration between humans and machines. It is about connecting people with robots and collaborative robots making them work together. This will drastically improve optimization and automation and offer new techniques and ideas.

13:40 Our digitization journey - What have we thought about?
Håkan Tyni, responsible for IT security, LKAB
LKAB has set its sights on the sustainable mining industry of the future and uses the full power of digitization to move from a document-based to a model-based way of working. Everything must be connected in near real time, they collect data and refine this data into information that can lead to more data-driven decision-making.

14:00 AI agenda
Jeanette Nilsson, AI Ecosystem Driver, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden and nominated for the Swedish AI of the Year award 2022
Sweden is in a good position to both assimilate and drive AI development. The AI agenda is a unique network that brings together experts from all parts of society who in some way work with AI issues. Through the work, the aim is to increase understanding of the new technology.

14:15 Stumbling or helping - upcoming AI act
Carolina Brånby, policy officer, Swedish business
The new EU regulation AI Act will be the world's first specific regulation of AI. It may be adopted in 2023 and then come into force two years later. AI systems with high risk are proposed to have special requirements for supervision and registration in order to be used within the EU. These include requirements for technical documentation and implementing a risk management system, as well as requirements for data management and quality.

14.30 Afternoon coffee

14:50 Business models in change
Erik Hagenrud, senior business consultant, LTU Business
Today's fast-changing world with frequent technology shifts means that companies need to adapt for their survival. An important competitive factor is developing the business models, something that is accelerated by the rapid progress of the industry with driving forces such as increased digitization.

15:05 Future scouting
Johanna Bergman, head of strategy, AI Sweden, Forbes 30 under 30 Europe
It is the use of new technology that creates societal changes. But development must not be left to just a few global technology companies or countries. To do that, Europe and Sweden must take an active role and be at the forefront of research and application of AI.

15:20 Establishment of digital innovation hub
Michael Nilsson, project manager at CDT, Luleå University of Technology, Björn Backe, project manager and head of department, Luleå University of Technology
Digital Innovation Hubs work for increased digitization and have opportunities to support and accelerate digitization where competence and resources are gathered to support the digital transformation of companies and the public sector. The objective is to use digitization as an engine to develop better working methods, products or services.
